About the Artist

Born in the French region of Nova Scotia, Alice Anne later traveled and studied art in Paris after receiving several grants and a scholarship. Upon her return from Europe, she completed a B.F.A. at Concordia University in Montreal studying artistic methods in paper-making while completing her degree in painting. After graduation, she sold four paper sculptures to the National Art Bank of Canada.

In 1992, Millington moved to Seattle and completed a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology, where she operated a counseling practice utilizing artistic techniques for a number of years.  She has now joyfully returned to her true passion as a full-time artist at Art Whisper Studio.

            The House of Time
                      27"x 50"
         Collage - Mixed Media

This piece was inspired by the book In This House by A. Cartwright and S. Fishburn. The imagery incorporates symbolic elements at the top of each room.

In the first room, my Siamese cat from childhood sits in front of an old door; a passageway to explore what lies within.  Under night skies the little girl holds a basket filled with white pearls from her treasures found that day. The drops of light shower stars like healing rain. The butterfly above represents change and rebirth.

In the next room, three birds are perched on a transparent veil singing songs in the moonlight. Studying music from a young age deepened my awareness that music was everywhere.  Sounds of bird songs…

The “House of Time” has a clock with wings, a metaphor of how time flies. This room features aspects of my matriarchal family. The fashion of the 19th Century, the Victorian era, is reflected in the dress of my great grandmother, Marianne Deveaux.

The photo from 1936 shows my mother with her cherished dog and antique bicycle.  She was French Acadian from Nova Scotia. I place this photo under a torii, a Japanese symbol representing a scared space. The collage was created
in memory of my mother, Beatrice. She was a French tutor, gifted story teller, good friend and devoted mother.
